Amoxicillin/Amoxycillin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the Amino-penicillin group. Amoxicillin/Amoxycillin has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Amoxicillin binds to penicillin-binding proteins involved in bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid or clavulanate is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes and extends the activity of Amoxicillin.
